Andrew Chinnock         

Andrew Chinnock : Musical Director

Andrew was appointed Musical Accompanist of Côr Meibion Abercynon in September 2012, and became Musical Director in May 2017.

Andrew has over 20 years experience as a choral and solo accompanist, church organist and band keyboard player.  

In addition, Andrew is the accompanist for Kenfig Hill Male Voice Choir, a position he first started in 1995. With assistance from the choir, he helped found the youth choir ‘Crescendo’. He is also their accompanist.

Andrew worked as a musical assistant in a primary school for six years where he also set up and established a school choir.

Andrew is currently a peripatetic piano teacher and also assists in the music department at Cynffig Comprehensive School with the school orchestra and choir.                                                                                      

Alun Caffery : President

Alun Caffery lives in Nelson but originally came from nearby Cilfynydd, a village with a reputation for producing outstanding musical talent such as Howard Jones,
Sir Geraint Evans and Stuart

For many years, Alun has been established as a local musician of repute and his talents as a choral conductor are equally matched by those as a pianist, organist and conductor. He has been associated with choral music for many years, having conducted Gymanfa Ganu and several choirs before rejoining Abercynon in July 1998.

A founder member of Côr Meibion Abercynon, Alun retired as Musical Director in 2012 and continues to sing in the Bass section of the choir, occasionally returning to the baton when the need arises.

Joseph Colbeck-Jones


 Joseph Colbeck-Jones

Joseph is 18 years old and is a student at Neath Port Talbot college. He has played the piano for 10 years. At age 15, Joseph attained his Grade 8 ABRSM examination, and is currently studying for his Diploma with Jeremy Ryan. He is in demand as a soloist having performed with numerous choirs and at dinner and charity events. At 9 years old, Joseph reached the Urdd National Eisteddfod for the first time, and has appeared on 4 occasions since then. Since age 11, Joseph has also played at wedding functions. In 2017, Joseph won the Rotary young musician award for the district and regional competitions, and made it to the final round which was held at Cardiff university of music.

Joseph is also a keen arranger / composer. In addition to arranging a piano and harp Les Miserables medley for his own GCSE Performing Examination, Joseph has also arranged items for his old school to perform at their Annual Christmas Festivals. He has formed his own band, La la vintage, where he takes modern songs, and arranges them so that they have a vintage jazz twist to them.

Joseph is the former accompanist for the Merthyr Tydfil ladies choir, and regularly accompanies vocalists and instrumentalists for both concerts and examinations. He is currently the accompanist for Neath male voice choir and the Phoenix Choir, and also his Colleges choir. Joseph is also a member of a Funk band and a Traditional jazz band which is run by him and his college friends. He also music directed productions of Jesus Christ Superstar in 2017, and Whistle down the wind for Class act theatre school earlier this year in Swansea

Joseph also plays the bassoon, and studies with Natalie Field in Cardiff. He is currently preparing for his Grade 8 examination. His ambition is to study music at university, and pursue a career in music.
